Thus far, it’s only available on createspace, but it will be available within the next week on amazon.com.
In the same timeframe it will also become available to bookstores, wholesalers, and libraries.
I didn’t originally intend to make a paperback, but the kindle version seems to be selling and someone specifically asked about it.
Just thought I’d let you know that I noticed the post ‘the subtle sense of humor’ is missing from the book.
I’m a long-time reader and I just wanted to chime in here. I’ve pretty much read everything on your blog and also bought your e-book. Your essays opened up new ways to think about and validate myself. In a way, they helped me to come to terms with…being me. Thank [insert random god figure here...maybe Odin?] you didn’t choose to end your life all those years ago! (Really I’m trying to say thank you to the defiant part of YOU…) Heretics must defy and live well. Cheers!
It gladdens me that I could be of help, Ender.
If it was pure rage and defiance back in those days that kept me going, now I live with a sense that there is work that needs to be done in the short time we all have.
I’ve come to realize over the years that a narrative and and an identity are human needs just as much as air, food, or water. In fact, we aren’t human beings without them.
I wondered plenty of times coming up with this stuff: “Am I just rationalizing” and making excuses for my faults?
All self-validation is rationalization to some extent. And that is unavoidable because any application of reason comes from emotional motives. But there can be no life without it.
I might make just one disclaimer: Any system of values has the potential to make us complacent and stop pushing the limits of our comfort zones…
It’s important to keep up the work and always keep growing.
I cannot thank you enough how thankful I am for your writing. Along with Susan´s Cain book its an must read for any introvert to gain confidence in yourself , acess your standing in society and gain trust in your strenghts along with true intellectual enlightment. Thank you a million times.
sry for the horrible spelling and grammar btw. Greetz from Germany
also I want to add one important thing you might not know.
I speak of eastern christianity also known as othodoxy , wich is the only church wich I consider having sainthood. Now , sainthood is nothing but celebrating introvesion. Wich by the way was highly respected and admired in past othodox cultures.
-Excessivly , empty talking with no purpose was an sin to be avoided ( even today it says that for every meaningliss blanter you will be accounted when you die )
-Being all by youself , avoiding social conventions was an nessesity to come closer to God ( exeption : Clergy )
-Heavy intospection , self-exapination was required to grow spiritually.
-Appreciating the small things as observing little microcosms in nature ( you got an excellent analogy something with waterdrops and leafes ) as opposed to the loud , restless elements of social conventions-etc
The whole instituge of the monastery was in fact an celebration of introversion. If you want to examine this isssue start with the saint Anthony ( if memory suits me right ) the founder of the first monastery or in general with the saints prior to 1100
Superb examples of self-control willpower and virtue. Thinking of it how fucking deep whe must have men degraded to consider ,,going out´´(= exessive drinking , meanlingless shallow ,,new friends´´ wich get dumped when new ones are around , promisiscuity ) and virtue and introvesion ,, weird ´´. People in the past were in fact miles ahead of us , us with the fancy ,, technological progress´´. *enjoy the decline*
